P5.2 million shabu in parcels intercepted
MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has foiled an attempt to smuggle three parcels containing methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu out of the country.
Personnel of the BOC-Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group confiscated the three parcels, which contained around 763 grams of shabu valued at P5.2 million, at the DHL warehouse in Pasay, the BOC said in a statement yesterday.
The shabu was hidden in a birdhouse, a case of shuttlecocks and a figure trimmer device. The parcels were bound for Bahrain, the United Kingdom and Australia.
BOC-NAIA district collector Mimel Talusan said the parcels were turned over to PDEA yesterday for profiling, case buildup and direct filing of charges against those who sent the parcels, whom she did not identify. – Robertzon Ramirez
