MANILA, Philippines — With the pace of Las Piñas’ vaccination drive, Sen. Cynthia Villar said yesterday the city may even be ahead of the government’s target of achieving herd immunity before the year ends.
“We are happy that soon, we would reach herd immunity in Las Piñas due to our various initiatives to boost efforts in giving jabs to our residents to avert the spread of the coronavirus,” she said.
Four months after the COVID-19 vaccine rollout in the country, Villar said 246,790 or 41 percent of Las Piñas’ total population of 606,293 have been vaccinated.
“And the number has increased. It has been increasing because our vaccination has been ongoing since July 10. Definitely, this figure has increased with the lapse of several days,” she said.
Villar commended Las Piñas’ barangays for having more than half of their residents inoculated.
Among the barangays with large populations, Talon Dos has given the most number of shots and has vaccinated 31,157 or 71 percent of its 43,978 residens. Pamplona Tres inoculated 21,765 residents or 62 percent of its 35,098 population.
Almanza Uno came third with 19,126 out of 36,232 residents vaccinated, representing 53 percent of its population. Pamplona Uno vaccinated 9,917 or 52 percent of its 19,085 residents.
Among the small barangays, Pamplona Dos recorded the most number of inoculated residents. Out of its 9,141 population, 6,566 or 72 percent have taken the vaccine.
The high number of people getting inoculated, Villar said, is a clear indication that they have overcome vaccine hesitancy due to fears of its impact on their health.
Despite being vaccinated, Villar appealed to the public to continuously adhere to the health protocols to prevent further spread of the virus.
