Active cases in Mandaluyong down by 89.6%

MANILA, Philippines — From over 1,700 cases two months ago, the number of COVID-19 cases in Mandaluyong is down to 179 as of yesterday, according to Mayor Carmelita Abalos.

The number is 89.60 percent lower compared to 1,722 cases documented in the city health office last April 11, the highest recorded in Mandaluyong when the National Capital Region experienced a surge in infections.

The barangays with the most number of active cases are Highway Hills with 24; Barangka Ilaya and Plainview, 20 each; Mauway, 17, and Addition Hills, 12.

At least 16,531 COVID-19 cases were documented in Mandaluyong since the pandemic started last year. Of the number, 417 have died while 15,934 or 96.38 percent of the patients have recovered.

Jimmy Isidro, the city’s public information officer, said 49 or 65 percent of 75 beds for COVID-19 patients at the Mandaluyong City Medical Center are occupied.

Abalos urged residents and workers in Mandaluyong to register at the MandaVax portal so that they can be scheduled for inoculation.

She said a total of 116,336 people have been vaccinated, with 36,331 having completed their second dose.
