Mild quakes jolt La Union, Zamboanga del Norte

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 3.8 earthquake jolted La Union yesterday.

The quake, which occurred at around 3 a.m., had a depth of 15 kilometers, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

Phivolcs said the temblor was felt at Intensity 4, which is classified as moderately strong, in Baguio City and Pugo, La Union.

The quake was felt at Intensity 3 in Rosario and Tubao, also in La Union, and La Trinidad, Benguet and Intensity 2 in San Jacinto, Pangasinan.

Another quake with a magnitude of 2.1 hit Bagulin town in La Union at around 3:44 p.m.

In Zamboanga del Norte, a magnitude 4.2 quake occurred at about 3:55 a.m., some 15 kms northwest of Sindangan. The quake was felt at Intensity 2 in the town.

Allan Rommel Labayog, Phivolcs regional field officer, said a magnitude 2.8 quake, with a depth of 15 kilometers, occurred after 20 minutes, also in Sindangan.
