Misamis lawmaker gets COVID-19

MANILA, Philippines — Misamis Oriental congressman and Deputy Speaker Henry Oaminal confirmed yesterday that he tested positive for COVID-19.

Oaminal said he had himself tested after he experienced fatigue and fever.

“I have reported the positive result to the city health office and the local government unit of Ozamiz City,” he said.

Oaminal advised those who have been exposed to him since May 15 to isolate and monitor themselves for symptoms.

Reps. John Rey Tiangco of Navotas, Pantaleon Alvarez of Davao del Norte, Martin Romualdez of Leyte, Alfred delos Santos of Ang Probinsyano party-list, Edgar Erice of Caloocan, Jocelyn Limkaichong of Negros Oriental, Michael Defensor of Anakalusugan party-list and JB Bernos of Abra are the other members of the House of Representatives who have tested positive for COVID-19 since March.

Meanwhile, a 48-year-old deputy police chief of a town in Tarlac died of COVID-19 on Monday.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said the police lieutenant was brought to a quarantine facility on May 5 after he tested positive
for the virus.

Eleazar said the police official was transferred to a hospital on May 10 after he experienced difficulty in breathing.

“On May 16, he was pronounced dead by his attending physician due to pneumonia,” the PNP chief said.

Sixty-two PNP personnel who contracted the virus have died since last year, 32 of them since last January.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the PNP is now 1,383 after 105 cases were recorded yesterday.

At least 22,207 PNP personnel have contracted the virus since last year.
