Mayors, barangay captains qualified for vaccination – Olivarez

Ralph Edwin Villanueva - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Mayors and barangay captains are considered frontliners and are qualified to get vaccinated against COVID-19, Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez said yesterday.

Olivarez made the statement after it was reported that at least five local chief executives had received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Being the head of the local health board, Olivarez said mayors are technically qualified to receive COVID-19 shots.

“The problem here is delicadeza. Right now, we are still lacking in vaccines,” Olivarez told TeleRadyo. “Should we put ourselves ahead of our constituents?”

The chiefs of barangay health offices should also be prioritized as they are also frontliners, Olivarez said.

Several mayors earlier drew flak for jumping the line for COVID-19 vaccines.

Aside from politicians, some government employees and actor Mark Anthony Fernandez have received vaccine jabs ahead of health workers.
