MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) reassured accredited health care providers yesterday of its commitment to pay their reimbursement claims.

In a statement, PhilHealth president and chief executive officer Dante Gierran said the state insurer is bound by the auditing rules of the Commission on Audit and only claims “without deficiencies and compliant to all pertinent policies and requirements of the program” will be paid.

Earlier, the Private Hospital Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PHAPi) said Philhealth has not settled P6 billion in reimbursement claims of its members.

Philhealth said PHAPi “downplayed that P25 billion has been paid in CY 2020.”

The agency said 87 percent of three million claims it received from PHAPi-member hospitals in 2020 had been settled.

About five percent of claims, amounting to over P1 billion, are in different stages of processing while about eight percent of total claims received, estimated to cost around P2.4 billion, were “either denied payment or returned to hospitals” due to problems with documents or late filing.
