MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has opted to shorten the voter registration hours as a precaution against COVID-19.

Beginning today until April 4, voter registration will be from Monday to Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays are designated as disinfection day.

“Those who have prior appointments on days where there is no voter registration are advised to contact their respective offices of election officer for rebooking,” Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said.

Jimenez said health and safety protocols would still be implemented in Comelec offices.

Wearing of face masks and shields is mandatory, he added.

The poll body will also suspend the satellite voter registration in barangay halls, day care centers, covered courts and other sites.

The Comelec previously conducted voter registration from Tuesdays to Saturdays, including holidays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
