ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Fourteen Abu Sayyaf bandits surrendered in Sulu yesterday amid intensified military operations.

Maj. Gen. William Gonzales, commander of Joint Task Force Sulu and the 11th Infantry Division, said among the surrenderees is Almudar Muhajiri, a follower of Radulan Sahiron.

Brig. Gen. Antonio Bautista, 1101st Brigade commander, said Muhajiri, who was on the military’s watchlist, had been in hiding for four years.

The bandits turned over seven rifles and five pistols.

Bautista commended the 100th Infantry Battalion for reaching out to Muhajiri and the other surrenderees.

The surrenderees have been assured of assistance as part of their reintegration into the community.
