DPWH hires 1,013 additional engineers
MANILA, Philippines — The Build Build Build program of President Duterte did not only construct roads, bridges and other infrastructure to spur economic development but also provided employment to the people amid the pandemic, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar said yesterday.
Villar said the DPWH hired 1,013 engineers nationwide and regularized more contractual employees.
“These newly regularized personnel, mostly employed as contractuals or job order staff for years, and the rest of our employees and officials are the backbone of the success of the program,” Villar said.
“With adequate and competent manpower, we will be able to finish more projects on time and in strict adherence to our design standards,” he added.
A total of 253 employees at the DPWH central office in Manila were given permanent positions.
“They are now entitled to security of tenure and other benefits,” Villar said.
Of the number, 139 hold the position of Engineer II, 22 administrative aides, 22 administrative officers, 14 heavy equipment operators, eight administrative assistants and seven draftsmen.
