MANILA, Philippines — Two doctors are the first women generals of the Philippine Coast Guard after they were promoted by President Duterte along with six other PCG officials.

Duterte promoted doctors Luz Escarrilla and Fran Eden from captain to commodore upon the recommendation of Department of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, according to PCG spokesman Commodore Armand Balilo. The PCG is an attached agency of the DOTr.

Balilo said Escarilla, commander of the agency’s Civil Relations Service, is in charge of the PCG’s quarantine task force while Eden, commander of the Coast Guard Medical Service, heads the agency’s RT-PCR task force.

Duterte has also promoted Captains Roben de Guzman, Luisito Sibayan, Inocencio Rosario Jr., Agapito Bibat, Allen Dalangin and Ferdinan Picar to the rank of commodore.

The newly promoted commodores took their oath yesterday before Tugade at the PCG national headquarters in Port Area, Manila.
