MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Tourism (DOT) wants the city government of Manila to lift the age restriction for visitors of open space tourist attractions such as Rizal Park and Intramuros.

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said yesterday she would ask Mayor Isko Moreno if the DOT proposal could be done in Manila.

Puyat said these parks are safe since they have large open spaces.

“We thought it was safe because open space naman at malaki talaga ang Intramuros at Rizal Park,” Puyat said in an interview on Teleradyo.

“We will be asking Mayor Isko kung ano pananaw niya sa no age restriction. We will respect the decision of the local government unit.”

Puyat said minimum health and safety protocols should always be followed by park visitors.

Last week, the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) approved, among others, the recommendation to further reopen businesses subject to the issuance of guidelines by the local governments.

Covered in the IATF resolution are cinemas, game arcades, libraries, museums, cultural centers as well as tourist attractions such as parks, natural sites and historical landmarks.

Apart from the opening of limited tourist attractions, the IATF also allowed the conduct of social events in areas under general community quarantine.
