Village chief slain in Laguna attack

LAGUNA , Philippines —  A barangay chairman was killed in an attack by unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants in Bay town in this province yesterday morning.

Arnold Martinez of Barangay Tranca was declared dead on arrival at the Global Medical Center due to multiple gunshot wounds, according to Lt. Col. Chitadel Gaoiran, spokesperson for the provincial police.

The victim, along with village watchmen, was conducting a road cleanup activity when two motorcycles with four men on board pulled over.

Two of the men approached Martinez and shot him without provocation.

Probers said the killing could be job-related.
