ECQ in Tuguegarao extended
TUGUEGARAO CITY , Philippines — This city will be under enhanced community quarantine or ECQ for another five days.
Authorities said the extension of the ECQ until Wednesday next week is necessary to contain the spread of coronavirus disease 2019.
City health officer James Guzman said Tuguegarao has been recording 23 cases daily since it reverted to ECQ on Jan. 20.
The strictest quarantine status was supposed to be lifted yesterday.
Prior to the imposition of ECQ, the city logged an average of 16 cases per day and 250 active cases. The city has 308 active cases as of Thursday.
Guzman said the spike in cases was due to agressive mass testing.
Sixty-five of the 1,000 people who underwent swab testing in the past three days were found infected.
Twenty-four of the new cases are police officers and 15 local government employees. Mayor Jefferson Soriano was among those found infected.
