Ex-vice mayor, pal slain

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga , Philippines — A former vice mayor and his friend were reportedly shot dead inside the office of a security agency in Angeles City on Saturday afternoon.

Jorge Bustos III and Erick Cariaga died at the scene due to gunshot wounds, according to Col. Rommel Batangan, city police chief.

Bustos was a former vice mayor of Masantol, Pampanga and brother of Patrol partylist Rep. George Bustos.

Security guard John Maverick Cunanan told probers that Bustos and Cariaga arrived at around 9 a.m. at the office of the Gems Security Agency in Barangay Pulung Maragul, where Bustos was working as operations manager.

Cunanan said he was in the bathroom when he heard two gunshots at around 4 p.m.

He said he went out and found the victims dead.

Batangan said there were no other persons in the agency office from 9 a.m. until the killing happened.

He said probers have yet to determine the motive for the killing.

Central Luzon police director Brig. Valeriano de Leon ordered a thorough probe of the incident. – Ding Cervantes
