PLDT building cybersecurity center at Villamor Air Base

MANILA, Philippines — PLDT-Smart, the country’s leading telecommunications company, is building a state-of-the-art cybersecurity center at the Villamor Air Base in Pasay City.

Philippine Air Force (PAF) chief Lt. Gen. Allen Paredes and PLDT-Smart president and chief executive officer Manny V. Pangilinan led the groundbreaking ceremony yesterday.

The first MVP Cybersecurity Center for Excellence aims to boost the military’s cyber defense capabilities as part of the modernization of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, accodring to PAF Public Affairs Office chief Lt. Col. Aritides Galang Jr.

Galang said the project is a testament of the commitment of the Air Force and PLDT-Smart to achieve a resilient cybersecurity posture for the country.

“The facility will house the PAF security operations center, network operations center and cyber range, which will serve as the training ground for future cyber warriors,” Galang said.
