Isko bans street parties during Sto. Niño feast
MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has ordered a ban on street parties and other outdoor activities during the feast of Sto. Niño in Tondo and Pandacan this weekend.
Moreno issued Executive Order 02 dated Jan. 11, prohibiting street parties, stage shows, parades, street games or any other similar crowd-drawing activities during the feast.
The curfew hours and the liquor ban will be strictly implemented, he added.
Moreno said the ban is necessary because the event could become a super-spreader of COVID-19.
“The activities during the fiesta celebration, if not regulated, can be a medium of COVID-19 transmission that will endanger the health, well-being and safety not only of the residents of Pandacan and Tondo, but also the guests and visitors who will join them in the celebration,” Moreno said.
The mayor ordered stricter guidelines for the Sto. Niño feast following lapses during traslacion or the procession of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, where social distancing was not followed by the attendees.
