Metro Manila residents follow COVID-19 protocols – poll

MANILA, Philippines — A majority of Metro Manila residents follow the government mandated health protocols against COVID-19, a survey conducted by the OCTA Research Group showed.

The survey, conducted from Dec. 9 to 13 with the results released yesterday, showed that most of the 600 respondents follow different measures to avoid contracting the viral disease.

Among the measures, 93 percent said they use face masks, followed by 89 percent who regularly clean their hands using water and soap or alcohol.

Eighty-three percent said they use face shields, while 73 percent observe physical or social distancing.

Some 52 percent of the respondents said they stay home when it is not necessary to go out, while praying and covering nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing both had 48 percent.

Forty-four percent said they take vitamins while only 37 percent avoid crowded places.

Other measures taken include avoiding people who are ill (28 percent), avoiding domestic travel (21 percent), consulting a doctor when not feeling well (20 percent) and avoiding international travel (14 percent).

On the frequency of doing the said measures, 83 percent of those who said they wear face masks do it always, while 16 percent said they do it most of the time. Only one percent said they do it sometimes.

Only 61 percent of those who wear face shields said they do it always, with 31 percent doing it most of the time, seven percent sometimes and one percent saying they do it rarely.

Sixty-seven percent said they practice physical distancing always, while 29 percent said they do it most of the time and three percent sometimes.

Some 77 percent of those who wash hands said they do it always, with 19 percent saying most of the time and four percent only sometimes.

Seventy-three percent of those who said they cover their nose and mouth when coughing said they do it always, with 26 percent doing it most of the time and one percent saying only sometimes. – Mayen Jaymalin
