MANILA, Philippines — Customers of Maynilad Water Services Inc. living in the southern part of Metro Manila will experience service interruption until Dec. 2 after Maynilad shut down its plant in Putatan, Muntinlupa on Saturday.
In its latest advisory, Maynilad said it was constrained to immediately implement a shutdown of its Putatan Water Treatment Plant 2 to give way to urgent maintenance works so it can restore normal production levels, which have been affected by prolonged high turbidity in the raw water of Laguna de Bay.
This new interruption is different from the ongoing interruption among all Maynilad customers in Metro Manila.
The customers affected by the new interruption are those living in the south, served by treatment facilities that get water from Laguna de Bay.
This means that some portions of Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Las Piñas and Cavite will temporarily have low water pressure to no water supply within a certain number of hours until Dec. 2.
Affected customers are advised to store water when supply is available. Maynilad added that it will continue to deploy mobile tankers to deliver potable water.
Maynilad noted that customers should expect some discoloration in the water supply after the resumption of service.
Should this happen, let water flow briefly from the faucet until the water clears, the firm said.
Customers may also cover their faucet with a clean white cloth to serve as a filter, making sure to regularly replace the cloth as needed. Water intended for drinking should be boiled first.
