Palawan police chief sacked over killings

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna, Philippines — The chief of police of Palawan has been relieved from his post due to the series of shooting incidents in his jurisdiction.

Col. Dionisio Bartolome was replaced by Col. Nicolas Torre III, who was concurrently designated as deputy regional director for operation.

The relief order was issued by the regional police headquarters following complaints from residents, according to Lt. Col. Imelda Tolentino, spokesperson for the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) police.

Bartolome will still assist Torre in the investigation on the killing of lawyer Eric Aston Magcamit, who was shot dead in Narra, Palawan on Nov. 17.
