COVID-19 free Manila barangays to receive cash incentives
MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Isko Moreno yesterday announced that barangays with zero cases of COVID-19 would receive a cash incentive of P100,000.
Moreno signed Executive Order 45, which gives another round of cash rewards to barangays that will be declared free of fresh COVID-19 cases.
The cash incentive will be given to barangays with no new infections from Dec. 1 to Jan. 31, 2021.
“The city government found it imperative to motivate barangay officials in the fight against COVID-19, by providing them incentives that can also serve as assistance in maximizing their efforts,” Moreno said.
The barangays which recorded zero cases from Sept. 1 to Oct. 31 will be given another P100,000 if they maintain their COVID-free status, the mayor said.
At least 73 barangays declared COVID-free had received cash rewards from the city hall during the first round of the program.
Moreno asked the city council to look for a funding source for the program.
He also announced that Manila would donate P2 million in cash to victims of Typhoon Ulysses in Cagayan.
