Backrider dies in hit-and-run

MANILA, Philippines — A backrider died and the driver was injured after their motorcycle was sideswiped by a trailer truck along Mel Lopez Boulevard in Manila yesterday.

Nilo Paypon was traversing the northbound lane when his motorcycle was hit by a trailer truck at the corner of Matimtiman street in Tondo.

The backrider, Ann Regilyn Salandanan, 30, died at the scene. The still unidentified truck driver escaped.

The truck driver will face charges of damage to property with physical injury and homicide.
