Six detainees still at large after Caloocan jailbreak
MANILA, Philippines — At least six detainees remain at large while seven were rearrested after escaping from the detention facility in Caloocan last Thursday.
City police chief Col. Dario Menor said yesterday the latest to be rearrested were Joven Tolledo as well as the prison break’s mastermind, Arnel Buccat.
Dedicated tracker teams have been assigned to each of the detainees still at large, Menor said. They are Norberto Alvarez, Hudson Jeng, Martin Mama, Gerrymar Petilla, Justine Tejeros and Raymond Balasa.
They were supposed to be turned over to a Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility when they escaped from the extension custodial facility by chipping away at the wall using a concrete nail.
Buccat and Balasa, the “mayor” and “vice mayor” in the jail, planned the escape supposedly due to their imminent transfer as well as the suspension of their visitation rights, according to two fellow detainees who opted not to flee.
Executive M/Sgt. Wilfredo Muyon and Cpl. Melvin dela Cruz Valez, the jail guards on duty, would be charged with evasion through negligence punishable under the Revised Penal Code, Menor said.
