NPA leader, BIFF bandits surrender

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A squad leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) operating in Zamboanga peninsula surrendered in Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur on Friday.

Brig. Gen. Leonel Nicolas, 102nd Infantry Brigade commander, said Marino Anlas, 29, a native of Sergio Osmeña town, yielded to personnel of the intelligence unit of the Joint Task Force ZamPeLan.

In Maguindanao, six members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters surrendered to soldiers of the 40th Infantry Battalion.

Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Western Mindanao Command chief, said Rogial, Omar and Talusan, all surnamed Manalasal; Sangutin Kabilan, Bin Bantingkal and Montasir Kanao turned over two Garand rifles, a rocket-propelled grenade, a Barrett and an M79 grenade launcher.

The surrenderees are undergoing custodial debriefing at the 401st Brigade headquarters in Barangay Tual, President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat.
