ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Abu Sayyaf bandits fired at villagers in Patikul, Sulu on Monday, leaving a barangay watchman dead.
The fatality was identified as Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team member Tali Lakibul.
Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr., Western Mindanao Command chief, said residents of Barangay Igasan were harvesting mangosteen when they were shot.
Local government officials and security forces said Abu Sayyaf bandits have been demanding for their share of the fruits harvested in the area.
Pursuit operations for the bandits are ongoing.
