Manila COVID-19 cases declining

Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The number of daily active cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Manila dropped in the past weeks, Mayor Isko Moreno said on Tuesday.

Moreno said COVID-19 cases in the city decreased from the usual 1,300 to 1,400 daily.

“For the past weeks, we have only 800, sometimes 900 daily cases,” he said.

Moreno vowed to continue improving the city’s healthcare facilities to address the pandemic.

He said Manila has a large caseload because of its density at three million population during the day and 2.4 million at night.

“It is the most dense city in the world. There lies the challenge,” Moreno said.

As of Tuesday, Manila recorded 10,488 COVID-19 cases with 9,245 recoveries and 381 deaths. There are 862 active cases.

Moreno announced that all market vendors in the city would undergo swab tests at the Sta. Ana Hospital.

Tricycle, pedicab and jeepney drivers will be next in the priority list, he added.
