Pasig-Makati bridge to open in 2021

MANILA, Philippines — A four-lane bridge across the Pasig River connecting the cities of Pasig and Makati is complete and will be open next year, Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar said yesterday.

“We have completed the final pouring activities at the mid-span. The 210-meter main superstructure that will connect across Pasig River Lawton Avenue in Makati City and Sta. Monica street in Pasig City is already completed,” he said.

The Sta. Monica-Lawton main bridge is a major component of the Bonifacio Global City or BGC-Ortigas Center road link project, “only one of 22 projects aimed at decongesting EDSA and C-5,” according to Villar, who added that “2021 will be a game changer.”

The bridge will also include a bicycle lane.

“This is the first walk-through from BGC to Ortigas. We are confident that we will finish the entire structure by first quarter of 2021,” Villar said.

The road link project is projected to reduce to 12 minutes the hour-long drive between the two business districts. It has the following components: the 440-meter Sta. Monica-Lawton bridge, the 362-meter rehabilitation and widening of Brixton (corner Reliance street) to Fairlane street and the 565-meter Lawton Avenue-Global City viaduct which will traverse Lawton Avenue to the entrance of BGC.
