ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Two Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel died while three others were injured when their truck fell into a ravine in Sibalo, Antique yesterday.
Truck driver Fire Officer 1 Joy Ardaña and FO1 Darryl John Peralta died at the scene.
Senior Superintendent Jerry Candido, BFP regional director, said FO1s Charmie Leigh Forro, Judy Baldone and Rechel Lustica were injured.
The victims were on their way to the Villafont Elementary School to participate in a Brigada Eskwela when Ardaña reportedly lost control of the wheel while navigating a curved portion of the road in Sitio Bato, Barangay Salvacion.
The firetruck rammed a utility post of the Antique Electric Cooperative then hit an acacia tree before it rolled over.
Probers are looking into reports that the brake malfunctioned.
