MANILA, Philippines — Forty-six of the 201 barangays in Pasay have been declared cleared of the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19, the city health department said yesterday.
Barangays 12, 25, 47, 74, 78, 103, 112, 114, 140, 141, 149, 150 and 151 were tagged “lucky 13” as these communities have not posted a single case of COVID-19 since the pandemic broke out in March.
Thirty-three other villages were declared COVID-free following the recovery of patients in these areas.
Mayor Emi Calixto Rubiano attributed the decrease in the number of COVID-19 infections in the city to the stricter implementation of health protocols.
“This is a great development that will boost the morale of our health workers, barangay personnel and other local officials serving as frontliners in the fight against COVID,” Rubiano said.
She also lauded the efforts of the city’s Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit in preventing the spread of the virus by conducting contact tracing and monitoring of COVID-19 patients.
Curfew hours
Pasay reimposed longer curfew hours starting last night in a bid to further prevent the transmission of COVID-19 in communities.
The residents are not allowed to go out from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m.
As of Wednesday, Pasay had registered 2,174 cases of COVID-19 with 1,382 recoveries and 78 deaths.
Pasig virus count hits 2,077
COVID-19 cases in Pasig rose to 2,077 on Wednesday, up by 52 from Tuesday’s tally.
According to data from the city public information office, 1,119 of the cases are active. The number of deaths stood at 128 while 830 have recovered from the disease.
Mayor Vico Sotto said they are planning to open two buildings at the Rizal High School, which will serve as the city’s centralized quarantine facility to isolate more asymptomatic and mild patients.
Pasig and the rest of Metro Manila and neighboring provinces will remain under modified enhanced community quarantine until Aug. 18. — Neil Jayson Servallos
