BOC seizes P150 million ‘hot’ car parts

Robertzon Ramirez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines  — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) said yesterday it has confiscated smuggled car parts with an estimated market value of P150 million from a warehouse in Quezon City.

Personnel from the BOC, National Bureau of Investigation and Philippine Coast Guard on Friday raided the warehouse of Maxtro Marketing Corp. and Bestat Auto Parts Corp. along Quirino Highway and confiscated spare parts and car accessories.

The warehouse is reportedly owned by a Filipino-Chinese businessman whom the BOC did not identify.

The BOC alleged that the items came from China and were repacked to make them appear as having been manufactured by Japan-based car firms.

“Repackaging inferior and substandard car parts and making appear as Japanese brands is deceiving the Filipino buyers,” the BOC said in a statement. Robertzon Ramirez
