Makati gives cash aid to 114,828 beneficiaries
MANILA, Philippines — The Makati government has provided cash assistance to 114,828 beneficiaries in less than a week, Mayor Abby Binay announced yesterday.
Under the Makatizen Economic Relief Program, qualified residents are entitled to receive P5,000 each to help them cope with the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.
“I am happy to report that we have rolled out cash assistance to over 114,800 residents in just six days. This has been made possible through the digital platforms we used to reach more beneficiaries faster,” Binay said.
The city government has partnered with GCash for the contactless and efficient delivery of financial assistance.
Of the 250,000 applications received by the city hall, Binay said 142,267 have been approved.
She added that around 10,000 applications were rejected by GCash due to incomplete and incorrect information submitted by the applicants.
Binay said those with rejected applications would receive a call or text message explaining why their application was denied.
The mayor assured the residents that there is enough budget for the program.
“There is no need to panic because we have allotted funding for the program to cover 500,000 residents,” Binay said.
She asked the residents to register online through the Makatizen App or www.proudmakatizen.com.
