8 Laguna towns on hard lockdown
LAGUNA, Philippines — Eight towns in Laguna were placed on hard lockdown for two days starting yesterday to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19.
Residents of Sta. Maria, Mabitac, Siniloan, Famy, Pangil, Pakil, Paete and Kalayaan were prevented from leaving their houses even to buy essential items, including food.
Banks, money remittance centers, groceries, convenience stores and gasoline stations were closed.
Pangil, Siniloan and Sta. Maria remain free of COVID-19. Mabitac and Famy have one case each.
Laguna has 323 confirmed cases, 25 deaths and 74 recoveries as of Sunday.
Gov. Ramil Hernandez said the provincial government is not appealing its shift to modified enhanced community quarantine on Saturday even though Laguna does not have the highest number of cases in Calabarzon.
“It’s better to be prepared than just ready,” Hernandez said.
