Magnitude 5.5 quake jolts Sarangani
SARANGANI, Philippines — A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck Sarangani, Davao Occidental yesterday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs officials warned the public of possible aftershocks although the trembler was not expected to cause damage to infrastructure.
The earthquake happened at around 3:13 a.m., with its epicenter traced 187 kilometers southeast of Sarangani.
Phivolcs recorded the trembler at Intensity 2 in Tupi, South Cotabato as well as Alabel and Malungon in Sarangani. The quake was felt at Intensity 1 in General Santos City and Koronadal City.
On Thursday, a 4.3 magnitude earthquake jolted Cotabato. It was felt at Intensity 5 – classified as strong – in Kidapawan City and Tulunan, Cotabato.
