Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines  – Two children were killed when a grenade they were allegedly playing with went off in Zamboanga del Norte yesterday morning.

The incident occurred at around 9:30 a.m. at the house of Nona Pasculado in Barangay Sicayab, Dipolog City, according to Maj. Helen Galvez, spokesperson for the Zamboanga region police.

The explosion killed Pasculado’s children, aged eight and five years old.

The victims’ father was tending to his used clothing business when he heard an explosion coming from the house, city police chief Lt. Col. Gilzen Manese said.

Police have yet to determine how the grenade landed in the hands of the victims.

Galvez appealed to residents to report to the police any discovery of firearm, ammunition and explosives.
