PNP exec, informant killed in Sulu drug bust

MANILA, Philippines — A police official and his civilian informant were killed in an anti-drug operation in Indanan, Sulu on Sunday.

Lt. Sali Aspi Salim of the Sulu police and the civilian informant, who was not identified, were shot by the cohorts of a drug suspect who resisted arrest after selling shabu to undercover agents, Brig. Gen. Marni Marcos, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao police director, said.

Marcos said one of Salim’s men, Pat. Alkadar Manjangan, was wounded and is now in stable condition in a hospital.

“The Sulu police will honor the departed officer by flying the flag at half-mast for one week,” Marcos said.

Meanwhile, in Bacolod, barangay councilman Romeo Canlas, 33, of Barangay 2, was shot dead while drinking liquor at the compound of Rino Dellama, councilman of Barangay 26, on Saturday.

Lt. Col. Ariel Pico, Bacolod police spokesman, said Canlas was on the drug watchlist in the city.

Meanwhile, Rommuel Garife, who was ranked eighth on the drug watchlist in Bulacan, was killed in an alleged shootout with anti-narcotics agents in Barangay Agnaya, Plaridel at around 1:05 a.m. yesterday.

Five other suspects were arrested in Baliwag and Marilao.

In Quezon, five grams of shabu with an estimated street value of P35,000 were allegedly recovered from Enrique Magdaraog, 37, in Barangay Poblacion, Bantilan, Infanta.
