Militiaman slain in Basilan clash with Abus
ZAMBOANGA, Philippines — A militiaman was killed in a firefight with Abu Sayyaf bandits in Tuburan, Basilan on Wednesday.
Maj. Arvin John Encinas, spokesman for the Western Mindanao Command, said Jemar Jalil of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit was brought to the Lamitan District Hospital then transferred to the Camp Navarro General Hospital, where he died while being treated.
Encinas said the clash occurred when five militiamen, who were riding separate motorcycles, were attacked in Sitio Pos Agi, Barangay Dugaa at about 9:57 a.m.
He said the bandits are with the group of Indanan Abdullah.
One of the militiamen identified their attackers as Saksak Jovel, a brother of Abdullah.
Pursuit operations for the bandits are ongoing.
