Boyfriend eyed as person of interest
Las Piñas roadside killing
MANILA, Philippines — The alleged boyfriend of a 33-year-old pregnant investment manager is now a person of interest in her murder, police said yesterday.
Corina Ibias was shot in the head with a .45 caliber pistol by a still-unidentified suspect while she was in the driver’s seat of her silver Honda City along Seaside Daang Hari in Barangay Almanza 2, Las Piñas on Dec. 26.
Witnesses told investigators that the victim and a male companion were walking toward their respective vehicles after they had dinner at Aleng Tonya’s restaurant, according to a progress report of the Las Piñas police.
Not long after the two went into their cars, an unidentified man shot Ibias.
Investigators who interviewed Ibias’ relatives said the victim was with her alleged boyfriend and the father of her unborn child, identified as Dr. Leo Anthony Acedillo.
Ibias’ brother Elmore Ray told police Acedillo and his sister were “having a misunderstanding due to her unwanted pregnancy, considering that Dr. Acedillo is currently also in a serious relationship with a fellow doctor.”
“On one occasion, Dr. Acedillo even wanted to get rid of the unborn child but the victim refused,” the progress report read.
The Las Piñas police said Acedillo is a person of interest and the subject of further investigation.
Case investigator M/Sgt. Marsito Torreon told The STAR that Acedillo has yet to surface and cooperate in the investigation.
Torreon also said there was no indication of robbery at the crime scene but the victim’s cell phone was missing.
