MANILA, Philippines — A businessman died after he set fire to his house and locked himself in the bathroom following a quarrel with his partner yesterday morning.

Roel Camero, 54, allegedly stabbed his partner, Anina Rose Tejas, 30, during an argument in which he accused her of having a lover, according to the Manila Police District (MPD).

He then set his house, located at the corner of Espiritu and F. Torres streets in San Andres Bukid, on fire and locked himself in the bathroom at around 10:30 a.m.

Neighbors took Tejas to the Ospital ng Maynila. Firefighters found Camero’s body when the fire was put out an hour after it started, the MPD said.

Camero died of suffocation, they said.

Meanwhile, P3 million worth of property was destroyed when a fire razed a warehouse along Earnshaw street in Tondo at around 6:20 p.m. Thursday.

The warehouse, which contained cardboard boxes and foam, was owned by Standard Realty Corp. and Asiawide Industrial Corp.

No one was reported hurt or killed in the fire, which was put out after seven hours.
