Alleged Chinese drug trafficker barred at NAIA
MANILA, Philippines — Agents of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) have arrested an alleged Chinese drug trafficker at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3, an official announced yesterday.
Hong Liangyi, 29, was intercepted before he could board a flight to Istanbul, Turkey, according to BI operations division chief Grifton Medina.
Hong was tagged as the leader of the Dragon Wu drug ring, which is reportedly behind the production and distribution of narcotics in the Philippines.
Medina said Hong was stopped from leaving the country after they found his name in the BI’s hold departure list.
Hong was turned over to the custody of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Medina said.
Last January, the Tagaytay City Regional Trial Court (RTC) issued a hold departure order against Hong and two other Chinese drug suspects.
In June last year, the Batangas RTC issued a warrant for the arrest of Hong and 13 others for a separate drug case.
