MRT to extend Dalian trains’ running time

Ralph Edwin Villanueva - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Rail Transit (MRT) yesterday announced it will extend the running time of China-made Dalian trains on its railroad tracks.

In a statement, the rail line said the Dalian trains’ deployment will be until the end of the year.

The initial deployment period for the trains was set from Oct. 15 to 31, then extended to Nov. 30.

The MRT said the trains will also run from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 8:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. instead of just at night.

“The extension of the trial deployment of Dalian will be to observe the performance of Dalian train sets on the lines of MRT-3,” the statement read.

It will also help in address the increase in passengers during the Christmas season.

However, the MRT said rehabilitation works may result in suspension of the deployment of the train sets.

A Dalian train has three wagons and could carry 1,050 passengers at a time.
