Beauty firm files cyber libel raps over Facebook posts

Jose Rodel Clapano - The Philippine Star

MANILA,Philippines — A beauty supplement firm has filed a cyber libel complaint before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) against five persons for allegedly spreading false claims in their Facebook posts.

Noveau Philippines Corp. (NPC), a subsidiary of Noveau Japan Co. Ltd. (NJCL), sued netizens identified only as Beverly Santos, Karen Gabriel, Avelina Obregon, Stella Marie Ancla, Gerry Yap and Chloe.

NPC, represented by lawyers Ferdinand Topacio and Julius Danas, filed the complaint before special investigators Rojun Hosillos and Baden Alonzo of the NBI’s cybercrime division.

The firm alleged that the netizens posted on Facebook that it is facing charges of estafa while the NJCL is “under surveillance” by the Security and Exchange Surveillance Service in Japan over certain anomalies.

Topacio denied the claims made by the respondents, saying the two firms are conducting legal business in the Philippines.
