Explain water service rotation, concessionaires told

MANILA, Philippines – Maynilad Water Services Inc. and Manila Water Co. Inc. must explain to consumers their plan to implement another round of rotational water service interruptions in Metro Manila and nearby provinces, a militant group said yesterday.

Renato Reyes, secretary general of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, said Maynilad and Manila Water as well as the regulatory board Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System should inform the public how long the service interruptions would last.

On Tuesday, the concessionaires announced that they would implement water service rotation starting today as part of supply management efforts in preparation for summer as water levels in Angat and Ipo Dams remain low due to inadequate rainfall. 

Reyes said the concessionaires must report to consumers the measures they have done to improve the water supply in Metro Manila.  

“They should disclose their plans to cushion the impact of the water service interruptions on consumers,” he said.
