Agusan Sur village chief shot dead

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines — A barangay captain in Padiay, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur was shot dead on Tuesday night.

Capt. Charlie Quidiam, town police chief, said Elver Salva had just attended a meeting of village chiefs in Barangay Poblacion and was walking toward a bus terminal when he was shot by motorcycle-riding men.

The victim was pronounced dead on arrival in a hospital.

Probers are looking into the possible involvement of New People’s Army rebels in the killing, noting that Salva was active in the government’s anti-insurgency campaign.

An investigation is ongoing.
