Fire officer dies in road mishap

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A fire officer died while six others were injured when their pickup collided with a bus in Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte on Friday. 

Fire Officer 1 Clayton Sabanal, 33, of the Salug Fire Station, was declared dead on arrival at the Liloy Integrated Health District Hospital, according to Maj. Helen Galvez, spokesperson for the Zamboanga regional police.

Taken to the same hospital for treatment of injuries were Jayson Acla, Josephose Alisna, Richard Cabardo, Jolito Gomez, Alfahad Muksan and John Dave Oxino.

The victims’ Ford Ranger, driven by Sabanal, was allegedly traveling at top speed when it collided with the bus in Barangay Kayok.

No one among the passengers of the bus was injured in the incident.

Bus driver Noel Florez was taken to the police station for questioning.
