4 drug suspects gunned down

MANILA, Philippines — Four drug suspects, including a former soldier, were shot dead in separate incidents in the past two days.

Lori de Jesus, formerly of the Army, and his companion Mark Anthony Booc were shot by unidentified men in Purok Hayahay, Barangay Calindagan, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental on Wednesday, Lt. Col. Reyman Tolentin, city police chief, said.

Initial investigation showed that four men barged into the residence of a certain Lope Guinsan and shot the victims.

Tolentin said the victims were on the drug watchlist. One of the fatalities allegedly supplied illegal drugs to inmates at the Negros Oriental provincial jail.

Police said Ryan Morales, a resident of Barangay Pulong Buhay in Quezon town, and Wilfredo Parulan of Sumacab Este, Cabanatuan City, both in Nueva Ecija, shot it out with police officers in drug stings in their areas.

Police said Joseph Asaldo resisted arrest and fired at anti-narcotics agents in Barangay Bayugo, Meycauayan City, Bulacan yesterday morning.

Authorities said 23 other drug supects were arrested in simultaneous drug busts in Bulacan, also yesterday.

In Rizal, four people, including a minor, who were arrested in a drug sting in Barangay San Roque, Antipolo City yielded 15 kilos of marijuana leaves worth P1.5 million, Col. Renato Alba, provincial police director, said.
