Emulate Ninoy, Belmonte urges government workers
MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has urged fellow government workers to reflect on and emulate the dedication of the late senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. in serving the people.
Speaking at the 36th commemoration of the death anniversary of the former senator, Belmonte recalled how Aquino inspired a movement that propelled the Philippines to the forefront of democracy.
“Hanggang sa araw na ito ay pinapahanga ako ni Ninoy. Nagsisilbi siyang inspirasyon ko sa pagiging lider na totoong maglilingkod at magbibigay lakas at boses sa mamamayan sa pamamagitan ng good governance,” she said.
“On this day, 36 years ago, Ninoy died courageously in the name of people’s rights and freedom. May Ninoy’s selfless deed make us, public servants, realize democracy’s fullest meaning for our people,” she added.
Belmonte and Vice Mayor Gian Sotto led the commemoration held at the Ninoy Aquino monument the corner of Quezon and Timog Avenues.
Also present during the event were representatives of the National Historical Commission, Quezon City Police District, local Bureau of Fire Protection, Boy Scouts of the Philippines, Inner Wheel Club of the Philippines, Rotary Club District 378 and other city and barangay officials.
