FDA: Testing of ‘fake’ vinegar products to continue

MANILA, Philippines — The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) assured the public yesterday that testing of vinegar products would continue to determine if these contain synthetic acetic acid.

Acting FDA director general Rolando Enrique Domingo said they would also examine the contents of small brands of vinegar.

“We are testing other brands of vinegar. If we see products that are also using synthetic acetic acid, then we will expand the list,” Domingo said in an interview.

Of the 39 samples of vinegar collected by the FDA, five products tested positive for synthetic acetic acid.

These are Surebuy Cane Vinegar, Tentay Pinoy Style Vinegar, Tentay Premium Vinegar, Tentay Vinegar “Sukang Tunay Asim” and Chef’s Flavor Vinegar.

Domingo said the manufacturers of these brands would be sent notices to pull out their products from the market.
