PDEA tests truck drivers for drugs
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted simultaneous surprise drug tests on truck drivers and checked their vehicles for drugs at the Manila International Container Port and North Harbor in Manila yesterday.
PDEA chief Aaron Aquino said Oplan Harabas was part of the agency’s program to reduce the demand for illegal drugs and promote drug-free workplaces.
“We are also doing this to keep track of long-haul drivers under the influence of illegal drugs,” he said.
Aquino said truck and tricycle drivers who refused to be tested will be reported to the Land Transportation Office while those who fail the test will have their driver’s license confiscated and undergo rehabilitation before they are cleared by PDEA.
