Closure of Marcos Highway Bridge moved to May 11
MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has postponed the closure of a portion of the Marcos Highway Bridge in Marikina.
The MMDA decided to defer the bridge’s scheduled closure yesterday following a meeting with officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways as well as the project’s private contractors.
The closure of the eastbound section of the bridge was moved to May 11.
“An ocular inspection in the area showed that the project contractors are not ready for the bridge’s rehabilitation that would affect motorists and commuters in the eastern Metro Manila,” the MMDA said in a statement.
The contractors have yet to open an intersection for trucks traversing the area and a slot at the median island for eastbound vehicles from Cubao to Antipolo as well as install traffic signs for motorists from Libis going to Katipunan in Quezon City.
The MMDA gave the contractors one week to complete the necessary preparations to minimize the inconvenience that the closure would cause to motorists.
Earlier, MMDA general manager Jose Garcia said a portion of the bridge would be closed for four months.
