2 South Koreans nabbed for illegal online gaming
MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested two South Koreans in Pampanga on Thursday for allegedly running an illegal online gaming operation that victimized their compatriots.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said Lee Jongjin, 28, and Chae Kwangbeom, 40, were apprehended by personnel of the BI’s fugitive search unit (FSU) at their residence at the Clark Hills Subdivision in Angeles City.
Morente said the South Korean government had cancelled the passports of the suspects.
BI-FSU chief Bobby Raquepo said Lee and Chae are wanted in South Korea for violation of its game industry promotion law.
The charges stemmed from the suspects’ alleged operation of private servers that enabled them to receive money from unsuspecting subscribers.
The BI-FSU said a manhunt for the suspects’ two other cohorts is ongoing.
